This scenic 17-mile paved trail through Leelanau Peninsula connects Traverse City and Suttons Bay. It’s relatively flat (you may notice it’s a little slightly easier biking south to Traverse City) and takes you past beautiful scenery, including lakes, vineyards, orchards, farms, and woods—with plenty of food and drinks waiting for you at the end of your trip, in both TC and Suttons Bay!

Sleeping Bear Dunes Heritage Trail

Parking: 6900 S Dune Hwy. Empire, MI 49630

Ideal Bikes: Road, mountain and e-bikes are all welcome on this trail. However, there is a small section of gravel and small rocks, which may be best for bikes with wider tires.

The Sleeping Bear Dunes Heritage Trail is a mostly paved multi-use path with a small gravel section in the Port Oneida Rural Historic District. It passes through the world-famous Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and goes through Empire and Glen Arbor.

45 North Vineyard Trail

Parking: 8580 E. Horn Rd, Lake Leelanau, MI 49653

Distance from Leelanau Sands Casino & Lodge: 5.7 miles

Ideal Bikes: This trail is ideal for mountain and fat tire bikes.

The 45 North Vineyard Trail is just a 3-mile loop but with its steep climbs and narrow sections, it’s perfect for a cyclist looking for a challenge. This trail has even been described as an XC World Cup style course. As the course takes you through the property of 45 North Winery and Vineyards, the scenic views of Leelanau County’s vineyards make it well worth the ride.

Parking: 15310 N. Lighthouse Point Rd., Northport, MI 49670

Distance from Leelanau Sands Casino & Lodge: 17 miles

When there’s six inches of snow on the ground and it’s below 32 degrees, there’s still biking in Leelanau County! Bring your toughest bike and explore this groomed trail along the top of the peninsula
